Challenge - We Start Tomorrow
Transcript Below
Hi! I’m Natalie Priester! If you’re looking to bring work-life balance into your life. You’re in the right place.
This challenge will give you five simple tasks to complete to begin to calm the chaos swirling in your mama mind.
Don’t worry. You are not alone.
Work-life balance is a huge problem in our society. The world expects a lot of us, and we expect even more of ourselves.
We want to be ideal workers. We want to do a good job. We want to help others. We want to be reliable. We want to earn money. We want to stand out.
We also want to be ideal mothers. We want to spend quality time with our kids. We want to be healthy. We want to have a comfortable home. We want to have a social life.
So much pressure. It’s overwhelming. Every time we sneak a second to ourselves to peek at our phones, we see three types of role models that make it even worse:
None of us want to be that frazzled mom chugging coffee just to keep her eyes open.
We don’t want to
You know what you’re doing is not working. You know something’s got to give. It doesn't have to be you. You already give so much.
Mama, I got you. This challenge is going to help you move closer to a peaceful work-life balance.
I can teach you how to
I know you’re already trying. I know you are tired. I know you are smart. I know you are capable of figuring it all out on your own...if you only had the time.
Let me help. Here’s my story.
Remember that ideal worker I mentioned? I was her--for more than 15 years. I stayed late at work, volunteered for way too many extra duties, took work home, only hung out with colleagues, and thought voluntary professional development was my hobby.
Then I had the loneliest birthday ever. After a school board meeting on a cloudy day, I ate a peanut butter Cliff bars for dinner, and hiked up a dark and foggy Cowels Mountain in San Diego. Then I went home to my messy house and chugged some wine with my dogs and cats. The next morning, I woke up with a migraine headache and was late to work.
I knew something had to give. I felt like I was changing the world as an ideal teacher, but otherwise my life was pathetic.
So, I began reading about work-life balance. I learned how to focus, prioritize, rest, value face-to-face relationships, and use systems to put parts of my life on auto-pilot.
I implemented what I learned. My life began to change. I fell in love, changed employers, and relocated. Everything was smooth...until I became a mom.
Suddenly, all the self-help techniques I had learned, just weren’t clicking. I was struggling. My house was a disaster. I kept pressuring myself to work even though I was on maternity leave. I was fighting with my boyfriend. I refused to ask for help or accept help. I didn’t have any close mom friends to confide in. I didn’t have any role models. Again, I turned to books.
After reading a few by actual working moms--not celebrities or CEOs--I realized what was going on when I heard an author mention doing the dishes. All the books I had read were written by men, non-moms, or at least women way beyond the mommy years. The same thing applied to all the role models I knew in my profession.
Know why it’s hard to find working mama role models? They don’t have the time to slow down, learn, reflect, improve, and then create something to share with others. All the real moms are too busy momming.
So, that’s why I’m here. I figured it out and balanced my life. Even now that I have two little ones, I have time to help.
I know our families, homes, careers, experiences, and personalities, are all different. I’m not here to tell you how to create a balanced life. Instead, I am going to share strategies and tips to help you identify what works for you.
Mamas, we start tomorrow morning! Check your email bright and early for your first task.
You may already be worrying about how you will have time to do this. Maybe you are doubting how just a few quick daily tasks can make a difference. Trust me. Trust the process. Little things click together to build a balanced life.
You can do this.
You deserve to have it all, without doing it all.
I will help you make it happen.
Let’s do this. We start tomorrow.

- Women in our profession who seem to have it all, except little kids snuggling in their arms at 3AM
- Women who are stay-at-home moms who seem to have that Pinterest perfect/1950s housewife life all figured out
- And then, there are working moms--like us. You know the image. A frazzled woman still in her work clothes juggling a buzzing cell phone and a crying baby while mac and cheese burns on the stove and her toddler scatters toys across the living room.
None of us want to be that frazzled mom chugging coffee just to keep her eyes open.
We don’t want to
- Have a messy house
- Run out of time for basic self-care
- Only have internet friends
- Feel overwhelmed
- Leave our careers
- Or resent our families.
You know what you’re doing is not working. You know something’s got to give. It doesn't have to be you. You already give so much.
Mama, I got you. This challenge is going to help you move closer to a peaceful work-life balance.
I can teach you how to
- Create simple systems and routines to calm your mind
- Become as intentional about home life as you are about your career
- Make sure you have time for true self-care
I know you’re already trying. I know you are tired. I know you are smart. I know you are capable of figuring it all out on your own...if you only had the time.
