Challenge - Day 1
Transcript Below
Welcome to day one! I am so excited you are here!
The goal of this challenge is to help you on your journey toward work-life balance by focusing on what you can control. We are going to take steps to help you feel in control, cared for, and connected to others.
We’re going to start small to create small wins. Every morning, I’ll send you an email with a task for you to complete. When you’re done, share about it in our community so we can celebrate. As you complete the tasks, you will feel calmer, more connected, and in control of your life.
We are all all different. We have
The confidence you gain through this challenge will empower you to continue balancing your life.
You are here because you know you have the ability to create calm. Let’s get started.
Today we are going to focus on dishes. Yes, dishes. Remember when I mentioned how just hearing an author mention dishes totally changed how I viewed self-help books? It’s because goals and most of the strategies I I had read about occurred outside of the home. We’re working moms. No matter how much we excel in our careers, there are always dishes.
Chores are easier when they are automated. At work, many of us follow systems, especially for mundane tasks. Yet, we overlook transferring this strategy to our home lives.
Before I say anything else though, I need you to let go of all the resentments and baggage you may have around dishes, especially if gender roles send you into a downward spiral like me. Instead reframe your thinking. You, as a mom, set the tone of your household. Again, let the resentments go. As a mom, you set the tone of your household. Just accept it. Own your leadership role. Create a system, set an example, and just get the dishes done. Follow your system until it becomes as mindless as brushing your teeth. By not letting yourself think about how, when, or why you’re washing the dishes and just doing them, you’ll have clean dishes AND more mental space to dedicate to more important things, like your kids.
Here’s your task. Before bed tonight, collect all the dishes in the house. Rinse or wash them all. Load the dishwasher and run it--even if it’s not full. Yes, you may waste a little water, but you will save yourself stress. This can lead you to earn more money and then you can donate some of that money to a charity. Just let it go, my environmentally friendly friends. Get all of the dishes out of the waiting area on the counter and out of the sink. Empty your sink before your head hits your pillow tonight.
When you wake up tomorrow morning, empty the dishwasher and drying rack right away. Put everything away as you make your coffee--before you begin to dirty more dishes. That’s it.
As you’re going, show off your work. Snap two photos:
Photo 1: Your empty evening sink
Photo 2: Your empty morning dishwasher/drying rack
Post the photos in our community so we can high-five you.
Dishes may seem simple, but the point is automation. You’re turning a chore into something that just happens. We become unbalanced when we let little things like dishes upset our day. They nag at us and distract us. Balanced mamas focus on what is important instead.
If you’re watching this late at night, I want you to get up and go clear your sink now. Then get some rest, which we’re going to dive into tomorrow, tired mama.
I’ll be back with your next task tomorrow. You got this mama!
