Challenge - Day 2
Transcript Below
Hello, again! How’s your kitchen? How are you feeling? Are you tired?
Today we’re going to talk about sleep. I know you already know you need eight hours every night. It’s hard when you work and have kids. You have so much to do, but that’s why you’re here.
Know how there’s only 24 hours in a day? It never feels like enough. We love to stretch our days as long as possible. Some of us stay up late and some get up early. Either way, when we don’t get enough sleep, we become grumpy, make poor decisions, and even get snappy with our loved ones.
Just telling you to sleep won’t do much. Instead, I want to get you thinking about your time.
Have you heard of Parkinson’s Law? Probably not. It’s one of those things that likes to float around in money books. Here’s the concept, work takes up as much time as you give yourself to complete it. Know how it can take you an entire weekend to clean your house, but when your mother-in-law calls to say she’s on her way you can finish it in thirty minutes? That’s the idea. When we give ourselves deadlines, we find a way to focus on what’s essential.
For today’s task, I want you to put a boundary on your day. Instead of 24 hours, your day is now 16 hours long. The other 8 are reserved for sleep--real sleep, like in your bed with your eyes closed. If you know you will be woken up in the middle of the night or woken up early, adjust your bedtime accordingly. Talk to your family to help make it happen. Ask for help. Anticipate your kids’ needs and plan ahead. You are in control of your home. You deserve to take care of yourself. You can do this.
Again, I want you to share in our community. Snap a Good morning! Cheers photo of your favorite morning drink and post it. Let us know how you’re feeling.
Remember you’re working to train your brain for balance. You only have 16 hours in a day. Begin to live within those limits. Protecting your sleep is a first step to developing boundaries and true self-care.
By the way, if you secretly know your phone is one of the reasons you lose sleep, just put it down tonight. We’ll talk more about media tomorrow.
You got this mama. I am so proud of you for taking the time to take care of you.
